I was asked to create to a Gossip website for the new Desperate Scouse Wives series starting on E4. The website was created using WordPress as I knew the client would be regular updating the site with all the latest images and videos from behind the scenes.
The website has proved a massive hit with fans and it getting many thousand hits daily. I also created a Twitter account (@scousewivesgoss) to go along with the site and that was that popular that Twitter actually suspended the account until my client could explain why they had so many followers in such a short space of time. Once I explained to Twitter about the show being aired in the UK and it was a brand new show etc… Twitter allowed the account to be used again (scary moment for my client).

Steve Collinson approached me with a website design done in Flash that he wanted me to implement for his photography portfolio website. I didn’t really want to use the normal way of developing a website as I new he would want to be in control of keeping the images up to date and making sure his portfolio was always fresh. If I developed a site using HTML and Flash, he would have to keep contacting me to make changes to images and that would have been a nightmare for both parties.

I started looking around for possible solutions and found numerous gallery type plugins and loads of photography websites offering to host your images. I registered on a bunch of sites, as most offer a FREE trial period and after many days of playing around with each one I decided SmugMug was the best fit.

It didn’t take me long to get the hang of creating a customised look to the site and SmugMugs support is fantastic. SmugMug is run by photographers and made for photographers. Now when Steve needs to add or remove a image or change his portfolio around, it’s all done by him using SmugMugs incredibly easy to use interface. Steve doesn’t see any of code I have implemented to get his design working.

This website is hosted on SmugMug, SmugMug offers loads of other feature we are not using on this website. You can basically run a photography print business from a SmugMug site, even incorporating PayPal payments for prints sold.

Video Games on Can i play is written using classic ASP and uses live XML feeds to provide content for the site and also the price and stock information. The website basically runs itself, with no further interaction from me what-so-ever.

On the price comparison results page, I also incorporated a related voucher code and offers section. These 2 sections use keywords from the current page and try and display related information.

As Can i Play has a FaceBook fan page, I decided to put FaceBook Like buttons on most pages. Also the site has a integrated blog, which is powered from Tumblr. Anything posted on the Tumblr blog, will appear on the website, posted to Twitter and also posted on the FaceBook fan page.

This website is hosted by me via Vidahost.

The Liverpool Studio Hire website is a static HTML site apart from the blog page, that uses ASP.NET (Visual Basic) to read in information from Tumblr using their API.

I used a theme from Theme Forest for the design and added the content to the HTML files. I also had to edit some of the image files in Photoshop for the navigation and logo.

Liverpool Studio Hire website

Liverpool Studio Hire ranks number 1 in Google for the term “Liverpool Studio Hire” and hopefully that’s what most people will type in when searching for studio space in Liverpool.

I host the website on my Windows Server in partnership with Vidahost.

I created this site for Jade using WordPress and a template she had already purchased. I made some changes to the template PHP code and removed some stuff that Jade is not using. Jade uses the blog for fashion information and tips.

I also added a newsletter subscription option using the MailChimp plug-in, to allow users of the site to subscribe using a simple form. This allowes Jade to send newsletters out to all subscribers in a easy to use interface.

The site has proven very popular with over 5000 hits in the its first week. The blog is so popular Jade now charges if you want a mention on the blog (at very reasonable prices I must add!).

Little update on Jades blog, it has now proven that popular I have had to move it onto it’s own server (still with VidaHost). Every month we see a increase in visitor numbers and Jade now has a very long list of people who want to advertise on her site.

I also host the blog for Jade in partnership with VidaHost, to keep on top of updates and regular backups. This is very important for a WordPress installation as all the content is kept in the database and WordPress are always releasing security updates.
