Steve Collinson approached me with a website design done in Flash that he wanted me to implement for his photography portfolio website. I didn’t really want to use the normal way of developing a website as I new he would want to be in control of keeping the images up to date and making sure his portfolio was always fresh. If I developed a site using HTML and Flash, he would have to keep contacting me to make changes to images and that would have been a nightmare for both parties.

I started looking around for possible solutions and found numerous gallery type plugins and loads of photography websites offering to host your images. I registered on a bunch of sites, as most offer a FREE trial period and after many days of playing around with each one I decided SmugMug was the best fit.

It didn’t take me long to get the hang of creating a customised look to the site and SmugMugs support is fantastic. SmugMug is run by photographers and made for photographers. Now when Steve needs to add or remove a image or change his portfolio around, it’s all done by him using SmugMugs incredibly easy to use interface. Steve doesn’t see any of code I have implemented to get his design working.

This website is hosted on SmugMug, SmugMug offers loads of other feature we are not using on this website. You can basically run a photography print business from a SmugMug site, even incorporating PayPal payments for prints sold.
